The border is fifteen minutes from the house, over the Friendship Bridge. Tui at twenty minutes, Vigo at forty — the other bank counts.
From here, Spain isn't a trip — it's a hop. The Friendship Bridge links Vila Nova de Cerveira to Goián in fourteen minutes by car, and suddenly the language changes, the mealtimes change, the menu changes.
Tui, twenty minutes away, has a cathedral and an old centre best walked on foot, right across from Valença's fortress on the Portuguese side — the two towns make a single outing. Vigo, at forty, is the nearest big city: shops, restaurants and urban buzz when you feel like a city day.
