The Alto Minho's town of the arts, on the river bank: a castle founded by King Dinis, the oldest biennial in Iberia and the river aquarium-museum. Twelve minutes from the house.

Vila Nova de Cerveira runs along the left bank of the Minho, facing Galicia. Its castle, founded by King Dinis in 1321, anchors the old centre; around it grew a town that breathes art — the Cerveira International Art Biennial has run since 1978 and is the oldest in the Iberian Peninsula.
For a late afternoon, the Castelinho riverside park follows the water with lawns and walking paths, and the Aquamuseu do Rio Minho shows the river's fish and its fishing culture — a sure hit with families. From the house it's a twelve-minute drive.
